ActiveCloud’s Russian team has completed the 1C system migration project for OMD OM, a group of specialized media agencies. The customer’s team and the cloud provider’s engineers implemented a seamless transfer of the IT systems from a European cloud to a local one.
OMD OM Group’s IT infrastructure and 1C databases were previously hosted in the Microsoft cloud, as well as on their own equipment in the office. The decision to transfer 1C data to a local cloud in Russia was made for the purpose of ensuring compliance with the legislative requirements, as well as improving infrastructure fault tolerance and security.
The customer considered the following options for completing this task:
1. Hosting critical data on their own servers.
2. Using the resources of a cloud provider.
The main reasons for choosing cloud resources were the reduction of capex and down time as compared to independent migration.
In the course of the project implementation, the databases located in Russia, as well as 1C (IFRS, Payroll and HR Management) were transferred to the ActiveCloud platform implemented using VMware Vcloud technology. The backup system’s configuration was based on Veeam Backup&Replication technology.
“For such a big company as OMD OM Group, efficient operation of internal and external information systems is vital. For medium and large businesses, moving to the cloud most often means transferring their critical accounting and reporting systems, as Russia’s current legislation on personal data protection requires this data to be hosted in a Russian provider’s cloud,” said Petr Mazepa, ActiveCloud’s Head of Sales in Russia.
Andrei Putintsev, OMD OM Group’s Head of IT, pointed out that 1C migration to a Russian cloud provider makes it possible to manage the resources within the cloud more flexibly, as well as to cut down on capex.
The сustomer had an opportunity to evaluate the reliability and performance of the cloud services during the trial period, and to test backups from OMD OM Group’s own local servers to the ActiveCloud’s cloud.
